What our runners say.

Shift has been incredible for me and my running journey

An outstanding community filled with empathy & guidance

If you’re ever struggling to find motivation, this is exactly the kind of community you need.

Good questions.

Not at all. SHIFT is a social-first community, not a performance based running club. We welcome a wide range of abilities and regularly pause to regroup if needed so nobody gets left behind.

Our pace varies depending on the group, but our regular runs are relaxed and conversational, typically we aim for around 6:45-7:00/km. But the aim is to run together, not finish as quickly as possible. If you're a beginner runner, we'll re-group regularly to make sure you're not left behind.

Absolutely. Loads of people arrive at their first run alone, and we'll make sure you feel welcome and introduce you to the group.

For our weekly runs, we really appreciate you letting us know you're coming along, as it helps us plan. You can RSVP via our member app or Strava group. Some special events have limited spaces and require a free or paid ticket, which will always be clearly explained.

Our regular social runs are completely free. Some special events may include a small ticket fee, usually just to cover the cost of the event and any extras included for runners such as food, drinks or additional activities.

Our Wednesday runs are based in Horley, but the exact location and start time change seasonally. Please view the details on our upcoming runs page for all the relevant information before each run.

Our Wednesday runs are typically 5K. Weekend runs and special events may be slightly longer, but the distance will always be shared in advance.

Wear comfortable running clothes and suitable trainers. We also recommend bringing water, reflective clothing and a light when it's dark and anything else you normally need while running.

You won't be left behind. We pause at regular points to regroup, and our run leaders keep an eye on the whole group throughout the run.

Yes, although it helps if you can comfortably complete the advertised distance. We'll always be honest about the distance and difficulty beforehand so you can decide whether it feels right for you.
